Daily Potomac flow and demand update (Sunday 08/01/2010)

Flows at Point of Rocks and Little Falls continue to fall. Most of the basin received little or no rain over the last 24 hours, though accumulations of up to 0.25 inches were reported in a few locations. According to National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the Potomac basin both today and tomorrow. However, the Mid-Atlantic River Forecasting Center quantitative precipitation forecasts (qpfs) indicate accumulations of only trace amounts over the next 48 hours. The NWS 5-day qpf indicates that the western portion of the basin may receive between 0.5 to 1.0 inches of rain over the next 5 days.

Little Falls gage flow 07/31: 940 MGD (1460 cfs)
Little Falls gage flow 08/01: 840 MGD (est., based on recently
available real time data) (1300 cfs)
Note: Gage flow at Little Falls is measured after water
supply withdrawals.
Point of Rocks flow 07/31: 870 MGD (1350 cfs)
Point of Rocks flow 08/01: 850 MGD (est., based on recently
available real time data) (1310 cfs)

Net Potomac Production (07/31/10):
FW Corbalis raw water withdrawal (Potomac): 120 MGD
WSSC Potomac Production: 142 MGD
Aqueduct withdrawal: 175 MGD
Total Potomac demand: 437 MGD
